Magnifique villa

Beautiful house well set up for a large group. Island paradise!
Posted on: 7/18/2017
I have just returned from a 10 day Christmas vacation with my family of 13 and our experience has been so different from BobD1959 that I will describe our experience at length addressing the issues that concerned him. The beauty of the house exceeded our expectations from its photos. The rooms are all large with an enormous master bedroom suite. It is beautifully placed, just feet from the ocean and designed to be cooled by the sea breeze which washes right through the house thanks to the open design. There is plenty of space and capacity of the amenities to cope with a large group. Our initial delight never faded. It has WOW factor. The pre arrival relationship with Tahiti Homes was excellent. I never got to meet Emily, to my regret, but I had many questions for her, particularly concerning BobD1959's review and everything was answered promptly and correctly. The check-in time with the lovely Laina was adjusted to suit our arrival time and we were able to extend our departure time again to coincide with the ferry as no-one was coming in that day. Far from being snobby, Laina was delightfully charming. We had a very thorough introduction to the running of the house and all our needs during the stay were dealt with promptly. There is a comprehensive explanatory folder. At the end we all lined up pour embrasser sur les deus joues (hope I spelled that right) at the end and felt we were farewelling a friend. Mosquitos. We were apprehensive, given that we were resident in the rainy season, but it was a week before I saw one. They were present but no worse than anywhere else on the island and we got used to them. Only a few times did I see more than one at a time. Cockroaches. We did see one dead one! Saw 3 in one night at the Tahiti accommodation we used before coming to Moorea. Cat. Yup did see it once in the 10 days of our visit. Didn't come near the house. Cooling. There are now fans in every room. As I've said it uses natural through ventilation. It is hot at night but we coped with that no problem. A cold shower in the middle of the night would do the trick for me. We would certainly have been more comfortable with air conditioning but this could have destroyed the natural feeling of the place and we did not regret its absence. TV. We are not sure if all the TVs worked as we had no desire to watch it but there are plenty. Certainly we didn't find them stuck away in cupboards. Refrigerators. The kitchen is like a professional kitchen with high grade appliances, Good quality cooking gear, all fit for purpose, and well equipped with large amounts of cutlery, glasses, plates etc. The large fridge took all our mountains of food, bottled water and drinks without turning a hair. There is condensation from the front glass but to complain about it is just silly. There are now mats which soak up the small amount of water. Cooker. Again this is a professional type. Latina carefully explained how to use it and we had no problems. The oven worked fine. Sliding doors. Yes they are big and heavy but glide beautifully into place and easy for anyone to open and close. Alarm. No issues. Cleanliness. Everything was spotless. The pool was pristine. The pool was a tremendous asset and just perfect. The pool guy came and went. We knew when to expect him and his visits were not an issue. Gecko poo. There are a few geckos which rapidly became favourites of the children. We never identified anything as gecko poo. Well, any negatives. Yes there are, but not in the level of support from Tahiti Homes. It is clear that the electrics could do with an overhaul. There are electrical outlets and devices which don't work and on the first night we had issues with the power tripping which required Laina to stay on until she isolated the issues. The switchboard can be overloaded, so some care is needed, but after the first night we only had a to reset the circuit breaker a couple of times in 10 days.

Villa sans scurit
Posted on: 7/18/2017

Bonjour Monsieur Guiot,

Excellent location, but house really needs repair & TLC
Posted on: 7/18/2017
Stayed here for the first 2 weeks of August, after booking early in the year. Family of 5 (2 parents and 3 children in their early 20's and late teens). First the positives - the location is fantastic, right on the beach, overlooking the amazing lagoon. There's some garden between the house terrance and the beach, but the view is fantastic. The coral is right there along with all the fishes. It's near the shops (such as they are) and very convenient for the port, etc. The house has a lot of space, and there's a nice (cool) pool in the centre of the property so you can cool off in private rather than lounge on the beach. The house is also in a small private 'domain' or residential area with a (unmanned) security gate. We were told by someone living nearby that the 'domain' was originally planned as some kind of hotel, with separate 'houses', but that they didn't have the money to finish the place off, so they sold each house separately. I also understand that this house is for sale ($1.7m), which explains many of the drawbacks that haven't been addressed. It does have quite a 'Wow Factor' when you arrive and look around. Unfortunately this quickly fades when you get to living in it :-( Now for the drawbacks. Let's start with the booking/pre-arrival process. Tahiti Homes presents itself as a professional, high-end rental management company for good/expensive properties, and the service overall was 'OK' - minimalist and a bit 'snobby', but things went smoothly enough before arrival. We were a bit put out that we weren't allowed to arrive even 1 minute early (15:00 check in is a bit late when people are arriving on early morning flights), and we weren't allowed any time for 'late' check out either, which was a bother. I should also mention that the property is available for rent either with or without the main bedroom, living room, kitchen included. I don't see how this would be possible in reality. This section of the house is the 'core' of the property. How could you ever just rent the other bedrooms and not the kitchen, or access to the beach via the main living room? Seems to me like just another way of making money from the rental. And that's the key - it feels like the property is slowly falling apart, but the owner still markets the property as though it's perfect, and is making as much money as possible while the going is still good. Regrettably our 'briefing' when we arrived was not adequate at all, with important information missed out or wrong. And given all the problems with the property it is important to get a GOOD briefing if you are to avoid all the problems that we had to stumble over! In fact we ended up having to depend on the cleaners for advice on what worked and what didn't. So, what were/are the problems with this house? The main thing is that no one looks after it and repairs the big faults, so the renters have to work around them. When you read this you may say that it sounds like I'm a moaner and being hyper-critical. Well, yes, true - but if you pay this kind of money and get told that the property is at a certain level, then that is what you expect when you stay there. I should also say that all the issues I raise here were raised with Tahiti Homes too while onsite. Let me run through our experience: - Immediate problem. The house was full of mosquitoes. Well, so are all the islands. However if you invest in a little anti-mosquito spray you can make a BIG difference. This we did, and after a couple of days of intensive spraying, and then regular spraying, we made the place liveable. Why was the house not sprayed before we arrived? How long had the house been closed up before we got there, and why hadn't previous renters sprayed? There were clouds of these insects all around the property and living there was impossible without heavy spraying. - The house was infested with cockroaches. The main problem was the BIG glossy brown ones (4cm long, with 6cm antennae). We found them everywhere, but t

Ia Orana Dear Ms and Mr Ducker, Tahiti Homes top priority is guest satisfaction. Despite we are not the owners of the properties that we managed, we do our best to accommodate our guests in the best conditions possible. Living on a small island in the middle of the pacific can be a challenge but the whole team do its best and as quickly as possible when maintenance issues happen. Let me take the time to respond to each of your comments.
Check-In/Check-out : Yes we do fix times as we need time between two guests to prepare and clean the property. This was the case for your booking and clearly explain by Laina far before your arrival.
Rental of the whole property: A year ago, at time of your booking the owner didn't allow anyone staying in her master-bedroom. After our insistence she finally accepted to rent the whole property to guests.
Tahiti Homes attitude: Sorry to read that you felt us snobby. We thought we have been always reachable 7/7 and recommended you great
